Effect of Phlebodium Decumanum on muscle damage, inflammation and cortisol during a precompetitive mesocycle in a National Volleyball Team

The severe training load of a competitive mesocycle may not be assimilated correctly by athletes, and can provoke endocrine imbalance, muscle damage inflammation. Supplementation with antioxidants such as Phlebodium Decumanum (PHL) helps protect against imbalances. aim this study is to analyse the effect PHL on fatigue during precompetitive in volleyball players. Twenty-four male players were divided into two groups (experimental control). experimental group was supplemented three capsules morning afternoon for 20 days. Blood samples taken before training, at end third week fourth evaluate creatine kinase (CK), interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-?), 10 (IL-10) cortisol. results show control group, Cortisol significantly increased (p < .05). In however, significant increase .05) only observed IL-10 value. addition, differences between second CK. Furthermore, there moderate variations (effect size, ES > 0.5; 90% CI) CK, IL-6 TNF-?. conclusion, supplementation protects damage, inflammatory modulation cortisol response caused fatigue.
